Interested in Playing Rugby While in High School?
It's almost that time of year again! The start of the San Antonio High School Rugby season is almost here! If you're a San Antonion who is enrolled in high school for the 2009 fall semester, we want you to play for our club! Training for the high school team starts in December. Practices begin at 7pm Tuesdays and Thursdays in Olmos Basin Park. Why Play Rugby?Rugby is a wonderful game, with a rich tradition around the world. The Rugby community is a unique group of individuals (and a group of unique individuals) who dare to try something different...a legendary game that mixes strength, speed, and agility. A game that will forever welcome athletes of any and every size and shape. Successful rugby does require fitness, but first and foremost it requires that special person who's ready, willing and able to give it a go. What Should I Bring to Practice?Shorts, a t-shirt, and running shoes will be sufficient for the first couple of practices since we'll be teaching the basics of the game. We recommend rugby shorts and soccer boots once contact practices begin. It is necessary that players purchase a mouthguard and bring it to every practice as a precautionary measure. The cost per high school player is $100. This fee includes registration with the Texas Rugby Union and USA Rugby. For more information, contact Orlando Villegas - Director of Youth Rugby Development - at 210-473-2245 or SA.youthrugby@yahoo.com. Parent InformationPlease feel free to contact Orlando with any and all questions. Come to training and meet with coaches or with parents of rugby team members. IMPORTANT: Please call Mike (210) 860-9414 on Tuesday and Thursday to get an updated practice venue. Olmos Park is our home pitch but we change practice locations from time to time because of weather or other conditions. |
