SARFC Defeats Austin Horde, 43 - 17!

The match was played in wet/sloppy conditions down on Brooks Field (Thank you AC) after a last-minute location change due to a flooded Olmos Basin.  The game opened with the first of several botched KO returns and subsequent early confusion on defense, Austin Horde took advantage of San Antonio's early mental errors with a quick score two-and-a-half minutes in, missing the conversion kick (0-5).   Six minutes late, Cliff "F You! Pay me!" Davidson answered back with a successful conversion by Orlando 'O' Villegas (7-5).  A penalty in the thirteenth minute gives SA a one-player advantage, sending the Austin #7 to the Sin Bin.  However, the ref, Sam Reagle, through a series of questionable calls, allowed SA to only get away with a successful penalty kick by O at 16' (10-5) before the Sin Bin was released.  Eight minutes later, Orlando scores and converts, making the score 17–5, SA.  San Antonio was attacking heavily and the side judge robbed Butcher Kitchen from a tip-toe corner try, but then, in the twenty-seventh minute, Ernesto 'Guz' Guzman pounded the ball into the corner.  O missed a tough kick from the left sideline (22–5).  Another defensive error gave the Horde an opportunity to score in the thirtieth minute, again missing the conversion (22-10).  O missed a wet penalty kick at 32' in.  James 'Junior' Hernandez scored the last points of the half in the thirty-seventh minute and O converted, bringing the score to 29-10.

Halftime subs included Avery Williams for Noel McCusker, Ausage 'Ito' Suiaunoa for Butcher, and Jordan Jahrling for Ian Klaes.

Just after the half (42'), a huge offsides in the line out is missed, leading to a 5 m scrum against San Antonio but an outstanding defensive stand keeps Austin from breaking the line.  Victor 'Vick' Zapata is subbed-in for Michael 'lobo' Villalobos (51').   In the fifty-fourth minute, Tom Beers scores on a long run and O converts (36-10).  Stephen 'Squatch' Poindexter and Brian 'Sunshine (Patricia?)' Leggett were subbed in for Vaovasa 'Vasa' Kuresa and Tom 'Tom Tom' Morell, respectively, in the fifty-eighth minute (five subs used at this point).  Kyle 'Nigel' Rogier scored off a great dummy pass (62') with another successful conversion by O (43-10).   At 65', Nicholas Kugel was subbed for Junior, Matthew 'Chunk' Green for 'Gorgeous White Marcus (GWM)' Leming, and finally, at 68', Jarrod Bueno for Guz (a final front-row substitution).  Austin scored again and finally converted at the 72'.  A long 87' match ended 43-17, in favor of San Antonio.
