SARFC to Host Teddington RFC

The San Antonio Rugby Football Club will once again host a touring side from the United Kingdom on Saturday, June 4. This year’s installment will feature the men and women from Teddington Rugby Football Club based in southwest London.

San Antonio RFC will share hosting duties with the San Antonio Riveters, the area’s premier women’s rugby team. The women’s match will kick off at noon, with the men’s match following at 2pm. Matches will be played in Olmos Basin Park, 651 Devine Rd.

Marcus Leming, SARFC Club President, shared his thoughts on this year’s event, “We are excited to be hosting another international team this summer. What’s even better is that 2016 will mark the first year that we will have the privilege of coordinating a women’s match. Rugby is on the rise in San Antonio and we are grateful to have the opportunity to share it with the San Antonio community.”

The international touring sides that San Antonio has hosted over the years include: Gilfach Goch RFC (Wales), Tonmawr RFC (Wales), Tata Steel RFC (formerly Corus RFC), Bedlinog RFC (Wales), Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) British Army, Old Patesians RFC (England), and Old Illtydians RFC (Wales).

Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen as we are hoping to treat our British guests with hot and humid Texas weather. Matches will be followed by a barbeque and social.
