San Antonio vs San Marcos Write Up

On a cold and blustery January day the big men of SARFC showed up at a narrow and windy City Park pitch in the heart of downtown San Marcos to contend with the formidable I 35 corridor nemesis, San Marcos. The boys from San Antonio came prepared with a retinue of subs and supporters.

The scoring started with the Greys being awarded a penalty try in the 15th minute, followed up by a successful conversion and a yellow card and sin bin for Tom Morell for a high tackle. San Antonio answered back with a penalty kick a short five minutes later thanks to the foot of Manuel Cuesta. Score 7-3.

San Antonio seemed very lethargic throughout the first half of the game, much to the delight of the Greys #3.  SARFC was given all it could take by him, his elbows, and ruthless running style. The Greys capitalized with a converted try off of him and his great support. Following that try, SARFC and the Greys exchanged blows with a penalty try, a converted try, and a penalty kick bringing the score to 24-10.

After a much needed rest and kick in the rear, SARFC came out a different team in the second half with a quick 3 points at the 42 minute mark. The game continued similarly to the first half, but with SA finally playing their game plan. Better late than never. Despite an outrageous 29 penalties by the Greys, SA wasn't able to fully capitalize with many points (as expected of a team with several new players). The game was within 9 points going into the final five minutes, 36-27, until the Greys #13 put the nail in the coffin, and their #9 converting the try. With a final score of 43-27, the Greys gain a bonus point and a tie for 1st place in the D3 Central Division. San Antonio moves to 1-2-1 and 4th place in the division.
